OUR STORY
We are an independent, family-run restaurant in the heart of Bath, proudly established for over 12 years.
Clayton’s Kitchen was founded by renowned previously Michelin-starred chef Robert Clayton, whose passion for food and hospitality continues to shape everything we stand for.
Rob’s culinary journey began in London at Ménage à Trois under Antony Worrall Thompson, before he refined his craft working with the legendary Nico Ladenis at the three-Michelin-starred Chez Nico.
In 1995, at just 25 years old, he became one of the youngest chefs in the country to earn a Michelin star while leading the kitchen at Hunstrete House Hotel.
He went on to maintain a Michelin star for seven consecutive years as Head Chef of The Bath Priory, firmly establishing himself as one of the South West’s most respected chefs.
After years in high-level kitchens, he chose to create something more personal uncomplicated yet exceptional dishes served in a relaxed but elegant setting, supported by a small and incredibly dedicated team.
Clayton’s Kitchen is very much a family affair. Rob’s wife, Sara, looks after all bookings, emails and administration and keeps everyone firmly in check! His eldest daughter, Imogen runs the front-of-house side of the restaurant, ensuring every guest feels welcome and cared for from the moment they arrive. His youngest daughter, Liberty, is a huge part of the team whenever she is back from university. A skilled waitress and a great support in food preparation behind the scenes.
We are incredibly proud to continue building Clayton’s Kitchen as a warm, welcoming and much-loved part of the Bath dining scene
